This work is about the importance of taking care for our potable water.
I was confronted with this problem during my summer stay on the wonderful tiny Greek Island Astypalea where after a very long dry period their water reservoir was almost empty .

I love to bring small and big issues and questions of our everyday life into my paintings and I love to do this in a rather 'playful' way. I just started a new project 'My tiny adventures' which are small size paintings .In Belgium it is not the habit to just 'drop by' , we are more used to make an appointment when we want to go for a visit to a friend . I wonder how it is in other countries?

In former times when we wanted to discover new places we had to rely on maps and our inner guide and we left more to chances, these days we depend on technical gadgets such as GPS, google maps etc. and I wonder how the use of mechanism will influence the human nature. RUMST - In het gemeentehuis werden de jaarlijkse cultuurprijzen uitgedeeld.
Kornelia Bonnaerens (ambachtsprijs), Leo Vermeulen, Jan Bleys en Jasper Bijnen (litteratuur) en het gospelkoor ECU (jong talent) werden bekroond. Voor de beeldende kunst was Bart Bals eerste en Deborah Missoorten tweede laureaat. De socio-culturele prijs ging naar kleinkunstgroep Jeu de Boules terwijl Annemie Reyntjens dit keer de titel van cultuurambassadeur kreeg toegekend.

De apotheose van de HOMMAGE-wedstrijd nadert! Op 5 maart vond de tweede selectieronde plaats. De kunstenaars van de top 105 stelden in CC Dilbeek hun inzending voor aan een jury (onder leiding van Sophie Lauwers, Anouk De Clercq en Vincent Geyskens). Die selecteerde 34 werken.

“Hommage aan de tomatensoep”
De 'tomatensoep' staat hier als veelomvattend symbool voor de belangrijkheid en schoonheid van de doodgewone dingen waar we wel is vergeten aandacht aan te schenken of zelfs niet bewust van zijn. Zoals het er momenteel aan toe gaat in de wereld , oorlogen, terrorisme, vluchtelingenstroom is het belangrijk even stil te staan hoeveel geluk er schuilt in de eenvoudige dagdagelijkse kleine geluksmomenten in het leven. 'Soep' is dan ook één van de dingen die wordt aangeboden in tijden van nood of gebruikt wordt als middel bij inzamelacties voor 'het goede doel' . Het is een eerbetoon aan al diegenen die op zo'n moment klaar staan om te helpen .

The ‘tomato soup’ is here as a comprehensive symbol of the importance and beauty of all the ordinary things in life we have forgotten to pay attention and sometimes not even aware of . As the current situation in the world is rather disturbing ,wars,terrorism, refugees, it is equally important to reflect how much happiness there is to be found in the simple everyday matters, precious small moments in our daily life .
‘Soup’ is one of the things that is offered in times of distress or being used as a means for collection campaigns for ‘charity’. It is a tribute to all those who are ready to help at those moments.

"Een sterk lyrisch schilderij dat voor elke kijker een apart verhaal vertelt. Het geheel is mysterieus door zowel de compositie als de onderwerpkeuze. De gemaskerde man geeft het tafereel iets surrealistisch zonder dat het realisme en de impact van het werk er onder lijdt. Mede door de monochromie ontstaat er een bepaalde sereniteit. De associatie met ander herkenbaar werk zou storend kunnen zijn ware het niet dat dit werk voldoende eigenheid en kracht heeft."
